Location: State Park Exhibit Shop, Little Rock, AR

This position creates graphic artwork and design that focuses on visitor services, safety, wayfinding, marketing, policy communication, and interpretation for our 52-park system. The successful candidate will become a member of the Creative Services team, a team that plans and designs engaging, creative artwork that advances the interpretive mission of our individual parks.
Creative Services is a service-oriented team—the successful candidate must bring an advanced service-minded mindset to their work. A never-failing, positive attitude is a pre-requisite. This attitude is expressed daily by agreeableness in mannerisms, communications, work, and actions.
This position is responsible for conferring with staff to determine priority messaging and visual themes, selecting media to develop project, designing the project using industry-standard software, and handling specs and quotes for materials and fabrication. In designing projects, the position develops layout, determines imagery and font to produce the artwork’s objective, such as illustration of ideas, emotional provocation, or interpretive messages. Position must copy-fit content (after a review and revision process), secure project approvals, maintain required records, write appropriate instructions for typesetter, and prepare projects for pre-press.
The breadth of projects includes posters, program flats, logos, calendars, booklets, flyers, brochures, and various special projects. Successful candidate must be proficient in the use of a Macintosh, Microsoft Office, and the Adobe Creative Suite. They require demonstrable artistic ability, strong communication skills, ability to articulate the rationale behind design decisions, motivation to learn, attention to accuracy and completeness, and a willingness to be a cooperative team member with the ability to work independently as needed.
Preferred Qualifications: Logo design experience, familiarity with cultural and natural resource interpretation, proof reading ability, and original artwork skills using watercolors, oil, or pencil.

Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications: the formal education equivalent of a high school diploma plus two years of specialized training in commercial art, graphic design or related field and one year of experience in advertising, printing, graphic design, or related area. Applicants with a bachelor’s in graphic design or related field preferred. Unqualified applicants need not apply.
